Keep Greenpoint Dry: Join the “Adopt a Catch-Basin” Pilot

Flooding is a growing concern for our waterfront community — and local families can play a small but powerful part in making a difference.

After Hurricane Ida, many Greenpoint neighbors experienced severe flooding, worsened by clogged catch basins. These street-level grates are meant to drain rainwater, but when they’re blocked by trash or leaves, it puts our homes and streets at greater risk.

That’s why a new “Adopt a Catch-Basin” pilot is launching right here in District 33 — and families, neighbors, and businesses are all encouraged to take part.

🌧️ Why it matters:
New York City is responsible for cleaning over 150,000 catch basins — and that means many don’t get cleared as often as needed. By keeping just one nearby catch basin free of debris, you’re directly helping protect your block from flooding.

🏡 How to get involved:
Sign up to adopt a catch basin near your home, school, or business. It’s quick, easy, and a great way for kids to see how community action can have a real impact.

This is a great opportunity for Greenpoint families to model environmental care, emergency preparedness, and neighborhood pride — all with a broom and a few minutes each week.

📍 Where: District 33 – Greenpoint, Williamsburg & beyond
📝 Sign up

Let’s keep Greenpoint clean, dry, and resilient — one catch basin at a time.

Let me know if you want to pair this with an Instagram post or printable handout to share in the community!
