This unique and engaging class invites young artists, to embark on a creative journey inspired by the vibrant energy, iconic landmarks, and rich cultural tapestry of NYC.
Meeting every Tuesday, focus is hands-on exploration, sensory experiences, and building confidence through diverse art mediums. Each week introduces new materials and techniques, all while connecting to a different facet of the five boroughs. The semester culminates in a magnificent group project – a collaborative ode to our amazing city – that showcases their collective creativity!
Over the semester, children will delve into a wide range of artistic endeavors. They might explore the towering skyscrapers through painting and perspective, capture the bustle of the subway in printmaking, or sculpt the unique characters of the city with clay. Our approach is deeply collaborative and process-driven, not product-oriented, meaning the emphasis is on the joy of creating, the exploration of materials, and the learning that happens along the way. The open- curriculum is designed to foster not just artistic skills, but also critical thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork as they work towards their inspiring group masterpiece.
